Acts 8: 1 – 8 // Reluctant missionaries and a town of Joy

After Stephen’s death, persecution broke out and scattered the believers. What looked like a devastating loss actually became the very means by which God pushed His people to obey Jesus’ call to take the gospel beyond Jerusalem. Like seeds scattered in the wind, the church spread and grew.

The scattering meant that not just the apostles, but everyday Christians, carried the message wherever they went. They hadn’t gone out willingly before, but now God turned their hardship into opportunity. Through their lives and words, the good news of Jesus reached new towns and new people.

Philip’s ministry in Samaria shows how the gospel leaps over cultural divides. Preaching Christ, he witnessed lives healed, evil pushed back, and hearts set free. The result was unmistakable—great joy filled the city, a joy only Jesus can bring.

What may seem like setbacks in our lives can actually be God’s way of planting His message in new places—and when Jesus is faithfully shared, joy always follows.
